About HealthInsuranceEstimator

HealthInsuranceEstimator is a free, independent tool that gives a quick, rough estimate of what ACA Marketplace health insurance might cost you after subsidies — a starting point before you look at real plans on healthcare.gov.

How the calculation works

The estimator compares your household income to the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) based on your household size, using the 2025 FPL tables. It applies the IRS's sliding-scale contribution percentages to estimate your Premium Tax Credit (subsidy) against a benchmark Silver plan, using national average premium data adjusted for your age, region cost tier, and tobacco use, then applies typical Bronze/Silver/Gold cost-sharing multipliers to show estimated pricing across metal tiers. Medicaid eligibility (138% FPL in expansion states) and Cost-Sharing Reduction eligibility (up to 250% FPL, Silver plans only) are flagged based on your inputs.

What this tool is not

This is a simplified educational estimate built on national averages — it is not a quote, an enrollment tool, or a substitute for checking real plans. Actual premiums vary by your exact zip code, the specific insurer and plan, your state's Medicaid expansion status, and updates to subsidy rules from year to year. This tool does not collect or transmit any health information, and it is not medical, legal, or tax advice. Always verify your actual subsidy and plan options directly at healthcare.gov or your state's marketplace.

No affiliation

HealthInsuranceEstimator is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to any health insurance carrier, the ACA Marketplace, healthcare.gov, CMS, or any state Medicaid agency. It's an independently built tool, supported by ads served through Google AdSense.
